Gov Bello condemns bread levy

The Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has described the imposition of tax on loaves of bread sold in the state as devilish.
The governor's deputy, Edward Onoja, in a statement on Saturday, said he never approved such wickedness.
The governor stated this as soon as people started to continue to condemn the tax on bread loaves by the government which was announced in a memo signed by the permanent secretary kogi state Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Usman Ibrahim, on November 9.

Following the initial uproar after the move was announced, the state Commissioner of Information, Kingsley Fanwo, issued a statement to defend the levy.

He had said that the tax was established to protect indigenous bakers from people that bring bread into the state without paying any form of levy.

On what the government will do concerning the development, onoja said those behind the “rumours” would be fished out and punished.
“We will not tolerate our own officials trying to profit off our people in any way, or even acting ill-advisedly in manners that cause them any form of distress,” Onoja added.

#ENDSARS: we’re not happy Sanwo-Olu denied inviting us, Army tells panel

The Commander of 81 Military Intelligence Brigade, Victoria Island, Lagos, Brig. Gen. Ahmed Taiwo, on Saturday, said the Nigerian Army was not pleased that the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, denied the invitation of the army's intervention on October 20, 2020, during the #ENDSARS protest at Lekki Toll Gate
The Army commander during his testimony before the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry probing the Lekki incident said inviting the army was the best decision the Lagos governor could have taken as the #EndSARS protesters plunged the state into anarchy but added that the millitary was also unhappy that Sanwo-Olu said two people died from the military engagement at the Lekki tollgate.

Brig. Gen. Ahmed said, “I spoke with the governor and said the Army was unhappy that he said he did not ask for Army’s intervention but I am sure that after you watched everything (video footages), you saw he had more than enough grounds to ask for Army’s intervention; perhaps it was the way everything went.”

We’ll explore other options if ASUU remains stubborn, says FG

The Minister of Labour and Employment , Dr Chris Ngige, has a
showed optimism that the prolonged strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities will be resolved by next week when the FG team meets the union leaders again.
He , however, said if the matter was not resolved by then, he would explore the provisions in the labour law and other channels .
The Federal Government had initially appealed to the union to end the strike .
The union had on March 24 2020 embarked on an indefinite strike over the failure of the Federal Government to keep to the 2019 Memorandum of Action between them as well as the lingering disagreement over the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System that ASUU rejected.

Salah confirmed to have Covid-19 after initial confusion over Liverpool star's test results

Picture
The Reds forward, who has been on international duty with his country, has tested positive in two successive tests
The EFA initially announced on Friday that Salah had tested positive before deleting the statement and posting a different one, saying three players from Egypt and their opponents, Togo, on saturday, tested positive and will have a second test before the match.
But a follow-up statement from the EFA later on Friday confirmed that Salah's second test had also come back positive, meaning the 28-year-old will now be forced into self-isolation.

The news is a fresh blow for Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, who had already lost central defender Joe Gomez during this break. The England international was injured during a training session and had to undergo surgery on his knee. He now faces months out.
Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also long-term absentees due to injury.
The only silver lining for Liverpool is the case of Xherdan Shaqiri. He posted a false positive when initially being diagnosed with coronavirus while on international duty with Switzerland last month and did not have to miss any games after passing the second round of testing.

Togolese striker Francis Kone has been honoured by Fifa for his life-saving actions in a Czech league match.
He was given a Fair Play award at the Fifa "Best" ceremony in London on Monday night.
Kone saved the life of goalkeeper Martin Berkovec back in February, after he nearly swallowed his tongue following a collision.
Slovacko's Kone acted after Berkovec had clashed with his Bohemians 1905 team-mate Daniel Krch.
He used his fingers to move Berkovec's tongue and stop him suffocating, after the player had been knocked out.

"I can't stand there, watching someone suffocate, without doing something," Kone told Fifa.com.
He said he had been involved in three similar situations before.
